Romance gets too hot to handle in this Play-by-Play novel from New York Times bestselling author Jaci Burton.
Everything’s coming together for budding fashion designer Carolina Preston. Only months away from having her own line, she could use some publicity. That’s when her brother suggests his best friend as a model—hockey player Drew Hogan.
Carolina and Drew already have a history—a hot one, back in college. Unforgettable for Carolina, but for Drew, just another slap shot. This time, though, it’s different. His perfect body would be for professional use only. This time, she could use him.
Drew is all for it. He’s looking forward to the exposure. Plus, it would give him a chance to prove to Carolina that he’s changed. If only he could thaw her emotions, convince her to let down her guard and let him in just one more time...

In her seventh Play-by-Play sports-themed contemporary (after One Sweet Ride), Burton pairs hockey with haute couture. Carolina Preston is living her dream of debuting as a fashion designer at New York's Fashion Week. When she asks her brother, Gray, a champion auto racer, to model for her, he invites his friend Drew Hogan along to help out. Drew is the last man Carolina wants on her mind; ever since a heartbreaking one-night stand with him in college, Carolina has had nothing but contempt for the hockey star. But Drew persists in trying to make amends. When he takes Carolina to the Rockefeller Center ice-skating rink, she realizes that the callous jock of her youth has become a sweet guy who signs autographs for kids. Burton maintains the romantic and professional tension while allowing themes of regret and forgiveness to come through. This light romp lacks thrilling highs or gut-wrenching lows, but it follows the protagonists smoothly to a satisfying conclusion.

Preparing her debut line for Fashion Week, Carolina Preston knows her brother's suggestion to have his best friend model for her is a good one--even if the one hot, secret night she shared in college with sexy hockey star Drew Hogan makes her wary. Carolina has worked hard to launch her own fashion line, paying her dues and putting her life on hold until she establishes herself in her chosen career as a designer. Now that her dream is in her sights, and she's staring down her first-ever Fashion Week with her own designs, she wants a new angle. Her brother offers to model for her and suggests asking Drew, his best friend from college and a supersexy hockey star. At first, Carolina resists. Unbeknownst to anyone, she and Drew shared a hot one-night stand in college, though she had hoped for much more from her long-standing crush. Drew broke her heart, so she's not thrilled with the idea of spending any time with him. And yet, the idea of a couple of sports heroes modeling her line is fresh and unique. The more time Carolina spends with Drew, the more determined he seems to prove to Carolina that he's changed. And that he might be a good bet for forever. In this installment of her Play-By-Play series, Burton continues her athlete-themed stories with a hot hockey player looking for redemption from the girl who's always intrigued him, despite his disgraceful actions years ago. Fast-paced, with intense sex scenes and an intriguing jumble of the sports and fashion worlds, this steamy novel will satisfy those who like a little heat in their love stories.
