PreS-Gr 1-This series of beginning readers introduces Kat, a young girl who is ready to try all kinds of fun activities and visit new places. With simple and repetitive text, such as "Kat reads books" and "Kat goes to the farm," children will learn common verbs, basic sentence structure, and familiar nouns and sight words. Colorful and lively illustrations mostly show close-ups of Kat engaged in solo activities, such as holding a bag of groceries after going to the market or riding a surfboard. Kat, who is white with brown braids and black glasses, has a big personality with a variety of facial expressions. Readers will delight in seeing her different outfits and accessories, like khaki and binoculars for a zoo trip. Each title includes suggested "Things to do next!" that will support seamless classroom and home integration. In addition to writing, these activities include drawing and discussion, ensuring that even reluctant or emergent readers can participate.
